Questions about my new Phonak Audeo Sphere i90

Yes I would recharge the hearing aids every night. It’s better to have a full battery in case you need to use the sphere AI mode for a long time.
You mentioned you use these as audiofile. I am not sure if your hearing loss allows for this, but you should speak to your audiologist about making you a special program for audiofile. You should make this program based on the “music” program that is already built into the hearing aids, but then see if you can turn off all feedback management and whistle block. These will make the aids sound very pure and there should be no distortion warble or artefacts or at least they will be minimised. It’s not a perfect solution of course but it might be an interesting thing to try if your hearing loss and fitting allows for it

I recently got a set of Sphere I90s too. Like you, I find that with 16 hours of daily usage (including 4 hours of streaming) I can easily get two days between charges.

I don’t recharge nightly. The reason is that it will shorten the battery life. I will only recharge early if I know that I will be using the Sphere noise mode that day, such as going to a restaurant for dinner.

I also don’t leave the charger plugged in. I can easily get two charges out of the charger battery. Again, I want to preserve battery life in the charger as long as possible.

And I don’t store the Spheres in the charger when I’m not charging them. I’ve got them set to not come on when I remove them from the charger. I turn them on and off manually.

I also turned off the Sphere mode in Autosense. I have Sphere mode set up as a manual program that I can selectively control. In a couple of weeks I’m flying to Europe and I don’t want to get caught short on battery during long flights. Sphere mode works very well in noisy environments, but it shortens the amount of charge dramatically… to as little as 7 hours.

About the sphere mode… Autosense mode…is this done by my audiologist ? Or can I do this with the app.?

Yes, storing these batteries (both HAs and charger) with a partial charge should lengthen their lifespans. You are correct, the Autosense setting for Sphere mode is set by your audiologist. I just happen to have my own copy of the Phonak Target Software and a NoahLink Wireless 2 BT device, so I can make my own changes. However, if you choose to use the option to no have the HAs turn on automatically when they are removed from the charger, you can do that yourself using the Phonak app.

Cool seems like you went with a hybred of suggestions there. I wish you the best of luck with it all. I get what your’e saying BTW about batteries lasting longer, I guess my thinking is if you need sphere mode, it’s good to have the battery fully charged to enable it. Let us know how you get on with the long flights. I might get myself a set of the phonak Virto in the ears soon and ironically with disposable batteries as I want sometihng tiny to go inside my ear. Hopefully the sound quality will be comporable.

I charge every other day. On the first day I use 1/3 and the second day I have 1/3 left. I have tried to carry it to the third day but once the batteries are at below 15% level, the HAs begin to lose its performance. The research tells me that the batteries have special technology so if you want to charge it daily (instead of draining it to low level), there should be no negative impact on the battery life.

You can be sure that they’ll be fully charged when I get on those airplanes.

Ok. Thank you very much. My audiologist set the Autosense to 80 db. When Sphere mode is on the batteries are discharged much faster. But sound quality in crowded environments is very good

Yes, to avoid all that, I find that the Amplifon app works with the Phonak aids. I have one set paired to the MyPhonak app and one paired to the Amplifon app. The MyPhonak Jr app also works for the second set of Phonak aids but it is much more limited. In your case, you may have to use the Costco app for the KS9s. I don’t know if the Costco app and MyPhonak app are compatable on the same phone but if not the amplifon app should work for the Phonak aids.

I never bothered with the Phonak app with the KS9s, and I won’t even be taking my phone with me on this trip (my wife will have her phone) so its not an issue for me. I know the procedure to switch the BT over down pat, because I trialed a couple different aids before I bought the Spheres. Even at home, unless I’m testing something, I don’t use the Phonak app.

Regarding charging, my audiologist told me that I should leave the charger plugged in and that this will not degrade the battery in the charger. I’ll check with him to see if this also applies to the hearing aids. Will report back after my next appointment which is on Tuesday.
