I have been using an Oticon Intent 1 miniRITE R with a 60 receiver (and smallest dome) for about a year, and I am happy with the fit. However, my high frequency hearing is worsening slightly, and my audiologist recommended a 85 dB receiver instead. I tried that for a few days but the receiver was a bit big for my ear canal and was making it sore by the end of the day. For Team calls at work I wear a headset and I had to take the receiver out as the headset was pressing on it and making it really sore.
I am now back wearing the 60 dB receiver and the audiologist has cranked it up as high as it will go without distortion, which has given me some improved hearing, so I am OK, but I quite liked the better handling of higher frequencies I got with the 85 dB receiver.
I was wondering whether if I persevered with the 85 dB receiver my ear canal would eventually adjust to it, and the soreness would go away. Most of the time I was not aware of it, it was mainly by the end of the day it was a relief to take my HA off.
Does any else have experience of this?
My audiologist says that all receivers of this power are the same size. Is this true? Are there no smaller 85 dB receivers are on the market?
