Captify Pro- live caption glasses

I’m currently considering Captify and EvenG2. Captify appeals to me because of its focus on the needs of people with hearing impairments and the ability to adjust subtitle font size. EvenG2 appeals to me because it displays subtitles using only the glasses (without a smartphone) and has a long battery life.

I’d like to hear from people who have compared these two and chosen one over the other. Of course, I’d also like to hear from people with expertise in both.

I’ve been trying out the Even G2. It does need the smartphone and doesn’t do subtitles offline. Captify does do offline. The main negative with Captify is the battery life. But I haven’t tried Captify. Thinking of ordering it.

even G2 and smartphone; Do you mean that without a smartphone that is buetooth-connected to the G2, that thG2 does not work at all?

Hi, I have had my Captify Pro glasses for about 6 months, and have generally been really pleased with them after some initial problems were ironed out. I work part-time in a museum and one of my tasks is to sell admission tickets to visitors. The glasses have been extremely helpful hearing those gents who mumble (I have reverse slope loss). Last week during my shift the captions stopped appearing on my glasses, they weere still appearing in the App.
When I got home I went through the troubleshooting process, made sure they were fully charged, did a factory reset, amongst other things that were suggested. Now I have nothing.
Currently, when I press the power button to switch them on I hear the usual click but nothing happens. I do get the greenlight indicating they are fully charged. I think it is a hardware failure. I put in a ticket with Captify support (4 days ago).This morning they responded and their advice was to press the power on button and everything would be fine.
Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks. I just heard about these.

I wrote to Captify, and they said that if I use them on the gig, like I do, with my monitor bluetooth connected to my ears, they wouldn't be compatible.

So now I'm looking for a competitor that doesn't use bluetooth. Any ideas?

There seems to be a few different brands out there.

Do you know of a comparative review?

I would like to know about:

• latency (delay)
• accuracy in clean and noisy environments (restaurants, etc.)
• charge time before battery drains
• work when there is no WiFi connection
• work without smartphone when necessary
• weight
• off/on controls
• ease of use

I see Captify, Even Realities, XRAI, Xander, Hearview, and a few others.

I just discovered this option, and want to make an informed decision.

It would be great to have the kind of report you are looking for, but I’ve only tried out two of the captioning glasses, and ended up with the AirCaps.  For what it’s worth, I’ll repost here for you my reviews on the AirCaps, and the Evan G2:

AirCaps:

1. Looks: clunky. Looks better with the clip-on sunglasses I bought at Walmart. Also easier to see the display in bright situations. But you must try the sunglasses on in the store, as the glasses frame is very thick where they clip on. With both glasses and sunglasses on, a bit heavy but okay. Not for long hours of wearing though.
2. Worked very well while in the dentist’s chair! Also in the car. I could drive and also carry on a conversation. I don't notice much latency. Maybe a bit.
3. I mostly use them offline, and they work well. Still need the phone close by. (The only glasses that work offline.)
4. In table conversations I get the double vision display. I talked to their reps about that and they said they are made for longer distance viewing. So you have to focus past the persons you are talking to.  
5. Battery: For me they’ve been lasting 2 hours. I turned down the brightness and that helped some. I have ordered the extra batteries and we’ll see how that goes. Since there are the only CC glasses I’ve found that work offline, I’m hanging on to them. I would love to find some that are smaller, longer battery, and work offline. Maybe next year. I did tell the AirCaps reps that it would be nice to have the time and sounds showing.

Even G2 Review: 

Pros:

1. Work well as long as you are connected to the internet, via wifi or data (cellphone).
2. Worked very well in a movie theatre. My cellphone must have had good data coverage there, since they didn’t have wifi.
3. The app worked well, and it was easy to adjust settings, once I realized where in the app to do it. Should have looked earlier at the instructions.

Cons:

1. Must have cellphone with you to use them.

2. Doesn’t work where there isn’t internet or data from cell. Like some parts of my apartment building hallways, or traveling in cars. I have Verizon on my cellphone.  So can’t use offline. I didn't notice much latency.

3. The words distort somewhat when focusing on someone close to you. It's still readable. You can adjust for a closer setting, but it’s still not close enough at times. I found myself looking beyond the person to not strain my eyes.

4. Speaking of eye strain, I came out of the movie theatre with a slight headache and eye strain. A couple days later I had my yearly eye exam, and the doctor agreed that the glasses could cause that. I found the following information in the Even G2 manual, and their contact via email said it might be causing an uneven balance between the two eyes. I found the following in the Even G2 manual and it was very helpful:

   • The device’s imaging system needs to align precisely with the center of your pupils. Your IPD determines the angular difference (parallax) between the images seen by each eye, which is a key cue your brain uses to calculate distance. If your IPD is significantly larger or smaller than the average, the perceived image distance will shift accordingly.
   • This IPD-induced variation in perceived distance can be as much as 0.5m to 1.0m. This is a reflection of the highly individualized nature of the visual experience.

5. The glasses look oversized on my face. But I'm on the smaller size.

6. The ring was interesting, but not sensitive enough to use with the glasses for me. It just became frustrating.

7. If you order with prescription, you can't return them (AirCaps too).
