To provide backstory: My hearing loss does not stem from a cochlea issue or problems with my eardrums. Instead, its because of a rare condition I have that affected the way my ear canal grew as a side effect. Before I got behind-the-ear hearing aids, I used a till I was around 7-8 years oldas my canal was so tiny, it would only cause feedback. I had to have 2 surgeries on my right side to open the canal using tissue from my hip (first time it closed up, so I had to have it again.) But because of other medical priorities, have only had the left side opened once (shocker, the scar tissue closed it up. again.) My left ear canal is so small I can’t even use a q-tip.
Currently, I have 2 Phonak Sky Lumity’s (pediatric cause I wanted them in purple, sue me.) with custom in-the-ear molds. I have tried ’s once and they would not stay in, also just didn’t like the feel of the domes.
Lately, I’ve been less inclined to wear my left hearing aid as I’ve been having some issues with it. Close friends and family have told me countless times that when speaking on my left side, they can hear themselves talk like they’re underwater. I know it’s not a thing to become self-conscious of, but I’ve resorted to turning my left hearing aid off when around them because of it. I also have really awful feedback when opening my mouth? It’s very weird.
I’ve had no issues with my right side as it is the side I’ve used since birth and while having my left hearing aid for years, have only now just started using it. My ear has become very wet (I thought it was sweat at first, but it’s just my inner ear where the mold rests) after wearing my hearing aid for a couple hours. My right side on the other hand can be worn to sleep and I won’t have any issues.
After looking up my issues, I have come to the conclusion that it’s possibly related to the mold sizing and filtering needing adjustments but I’m out of state for school right now and exam season, so is there anything I can do now or should I just wait for an appointment?
