I’m hoping to connect with a qualified hearing professional or someone with substantial experience programming and fine-tuning Rexton BiCore hearing aids using Connexx.
When I listen to YouTube videos or karaoke music through my iPad using an inexpensive portable Bluetooth receiver/amplifier and KZ in-ear monitors (IEMs), I can hear music and spoken words much more clearly than I can through my hearing aids. Does this suggest that my Rexton BiCore hearing aids might be capable of providing similar speech clarity if they are programmed correctly? I understand that IEMs and hearing aids work differently, but the difference in clarity has been frustrating.
I’ve visited the Costco Hearing Center more than 10 times for adjustments, yet I still struggle to understand everyday speech.
There was one occasion, however, when I left Costco after an adjustment and could suddenly understand speech remarkably well. Voices coming through my car stereo sounded clear, and I could also understand people much better in everyday conversations. The pronunciation of words was easy to distinguish, although the treble was slightly higher than I preferred.
Later, when I connected my hearing aids to my iPhone, I noticed that the hearing aids appeared under another customer’s name, Elaine. It seemed that the specialist may have accidentally loaded someone else’s hearing aid program onto my devices.
The only issues I noticed with that program were slightly excessive treble and low Bluetooth music and phone-call volumes. When I returned to Costco to have those issues corrected, the specialist removed Elaine’s program and restored my previous programming. Unfortunately, my speech clarity immediately became poor again, and I haven’t been able to achieve the same results since.
That experience makes me wonder whether the right combination of programming adjustments could significantly improve my hearing.
I now have the Connexx fitting software installed on my Microsoft Surface Pro, along with a Noahlink Wireless programming device. I’ve successfully connected and communicated with both of my Rexton BiCore hearing aids, so the equipment appears to be working properly. However, I do not want to make programming changes on my own or use another person’s fitting. Any changes should be made or supervised by a qualified hearing professional who can verify that the settings are appropriate and safe for my hearing.
What I need now is guidance from someone knowledgeable about Rexton BiCore programming on which measurements, verification methods, and fitting settings might help improve real-world speech clarity without making high-frequency sounds excessively sharp or uncomfortable.
In particular, I would appreciate guidance on the value of real-ear measurements, speech testing, feedback testing, compression and gain settings, frequency shaping, noise reduction, directionality, and streaming adjustments. I would also appreciate advice on adjusting Bluetooth music streaming and hands-free phone-call volume independently, since the music volume can be quite loud while phone calls remain too soft. Any recommendations should be reviewed and implemented by a qualified hearing professional rather than copied or applied blindly.
I’m not asking anyone to recreate Elaine’s hearing aid prescription or copy another person’s fitting. I simply want to understand which objective measurements and settings could help identify why that program seemed clearer and how a professional might achieve comparable speech audibility using a program properly fitted to my own hearing, hearing needs, and comfort preferences.
If anyone has experience with Rexton BiCore hearing aids and Connexx, especially a qualified hearing professional who can explain the relevant measurements and fitting options, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. My goal is to work safely with a professional to improve speech clarity—not to duplicate someone else’s programming.
Thank you!
