I own galaxy phones S10 and S23, and 2 galaxy tabs S4 and S9 FE. Two have LE bluetooth switches.
This is my experiences with streaming music or phone calls using Bluetooth
with my hearing aids and trying to get reliabe pairing and maintaining connection. I did try all the rectification suggestions in the Philips white paper for connection issues. Tried with philips app installed and un-installed. Also checked the “developer option” in system (most applicable switches grayed out).
The following are my issues with all 4 devices:
1- pairing can be a little temperamental with one or the other of the hearing aids not pairing without switching bluetooth on and off 1 or 2 times.
With both hearing aids shown as being connected in “Notification” and playing music or phone call (referred to as “audio” below):
1 - at times the audio would sound like the hearing aids were sligthly out of sync (echo).
2 - at times audio would have weird audio spikes or sound slightly clipped.
3 - one or both hearing aids would randomly stop playing the audio and then restart. Device or head would not have moved during this time.
4 - When LE audio switched on, audio is totally garbled or distorted.
Bought a Pixel 9 on sale for $949 cdn. to replace the S10. I paired my hearing aids and tested them without using the Philips app. so the android operating system could be evaluated. WOW:
1 - no pairing issues. Device details shows the name of the hearing aids, that left and right are “active”, and the percent of power left in both hearing aids.
2 - audio is flawless, sounds great, and no drop out of audio. Tested in the same positions that my other device would have issues with (can even put it in my shirt pocket). Put it in my back pocket and went outside to do yard work. No problem streaming music, bluetooth connection was solid.
3 - LE audio works. When selected on, a new switch is created showing what program mode your hearing aids are in and gives the options to change it.
Prior to buying Pixel 9, I was beginning to think it was a hearing aids issue. Very happy with the phone. Overall I highly recommend it. The S10 and tab S4 are gone. Wife using S23. I’ll keep the tab S9 FE and hope that android 15 or 16 will improve it.
Don’t know what Samsung does to the android operating system or their devices. Maybe you have to buy their most expensive flagship model to get good bluetooth, but I don’t have $1800 to $1900 to find out. Possibly they have a proprietary bluetooth specifically for their audio devices.
Curious if other have had better results.
