Love my Philips HearLink 9050 Hearing Aids with 85 receivers and Double Vent Bass Domes. I recently started back with hearing aids after a 7 year hiatus. Also bought a Noahlink Wireless 2 programmer.

Does anyone else notice a difference with the SoundMap settings? What are your preferred settings SoundMap settings? Thanks in advance!

I made the following changes to the settings, but honestly can’t tell a difference from the default settings with Costco fitter and HearSuite. My goal was to improve overall speech performance while disregarding battery performance. However, I feel like the general default settings recently maybe worked slightly better while talking in an airborne 737 (80 dB background noise). With the general default settings, while talking in an airborne 737, I could hear the gentleman slightly better, and my own voice was at a consistent level.

Settings Change

  • General Program - SoundMap Noise Control

    • Maximum Effect

      • From: Medium
      • To: High
      • Reasoning: Set the strength of the dynamic directionality.

    • SoundMap Noise Control Transition

      • From: High
      • To: Very High
      • Reasoning: Increase the assertiveness of the automatic system to help with background noise.
      • Note: I did not notice a difference.

    • Noise Reduction Mode

      • From: Medium
      • To: Very High
      • Reasoning: To utilize the new “Very high” 12 dB setting of the Philips 9050.
      • Note: Disappointedly, I absolutely did not notice a difference in the airborne 737, which had a background noise level of 80 dB. I switched back and force between the general defaults, and my custom general program with the max settings.

    • Speech Clarifier

      • From: Medium
      • To: High
      • Reasoning: Help speech stand out in the noise.
      • Note: Have not noticed a difference

I left Comfort Control at Medium. Changed SoundProtect Transient Noise Reduction to High from Medium.

Have you been through the SBO Courses54?

I have the same from Costco with P100 receivers & double-vented bass domes. I am still feeling my way around HearSuite and wading through the courses & course transcripts from the above link. My obsession has been to find the best balance for music listening (direct vs ) so I can’t really help you with speech in noise settings.

Thanks! Those look like great courses/lessons.

As far as streaming, I’ve had good luck with direct/MFI with an iPhone 12 running iOS 18. The image below has the default settings for the HiFi Music program, which seem to work well. Also, I turned on the Low frequency enhancement in the Accessories for the smart phone. However, with even with all these settings turned on, the Philips 9050s do not touch the quality that AirPods Pro provide utilizing my as an adjustment. The audiogram can be entered into the apple health app.
