What I love about my Linx and what I’m concerned about.
I’ve had my LiNX for two weeks and really, really, really love them. They are, without a doubt, the best HEARING aids I’ve used. After three years with a Resound unit from Costco, I started trying other brands. I can’t say I was sure that Costco was a good place to buy or not, but it certainly is, far and away, the least - the very least - expensive place to buy hearing aids if they have hearing aids that work for you. However…
After trying Siemens, Rexton, Beltone, and a couple of others, I began to feel like much of the whole fitting thing was more theater than anything else. I got extremely frustrated with the whole industry, especially when you have Costco selling hearing aids for $3,000 and you can only find “similar ones” at twice the cost or more from a specialist. After awhile, I got to the point where I was willing to go for the $6,000 as long as there was a demonstrable difference in the hearing. LiNX has that difference for me, even though I’m still moaning about the $6,000.
The ability to adjust Treble and Bass is a great feature. Adding Treble negates the need for streamers on the TV, for me. Sometimes I giggle at how soft I can make the volume but by turning up the Treble, hear the TV just fine.
The Finder feature is rather neat. It’s so sensitive that if you hold the iPhone or the iPad on one side of your body, the display actually shows the different distance from the iPad or iPhone. Very cool.
Listening to voice on FaceTime and Skype calls right through the hearing aids is just terrific. I also have Dish Network and actually prefer watching programs on my iPad Mini and having the sound go directly to my ears. I guess there is nothing like streaming directly to your ears, but I’m going to try the Linx hearing aids without the streamers - at least, for awhile.
The concerns I have relate to various programs on the iPad Mini. When I switch to Google, I find that the hearing aids shut down. Then, sometimes they don’t. I’m assuming Apple and/or Resound will figure this out and send out a patch or an update of some sort.
When I use the microphone, the hearing aids turn off.
When I change places, like from my house to our clubhouse about a half mile away, which has its own “place,” the settings don’t change. I’ve read in another blog that people hear a beep and the settings change to what they were the last time you were in that place. To me, that is a very cool feature, and I hope there is a fix for it…soon.
The last thing is very curious to me. The Battery Indicators don’t show anything about the batteries decreasing in power. They only turn white, from red, when the batteries are dead.
That’s my two cents (or twenty cents) on my first two weeks with the best hearing aids I’ve ever used.
