Go To Hearing (Phonak Audeo Infinio I90) 8-6-25
Christopher Campellone, an independent provider with several available lines, did a very thorough examination.
Included were pictures of both ear canals (spotlessly clean) with clear evidence of the scarring induced from the prior (over more than 60 years, the most recent being 4 years ago) half-dozen perforations of the left eardrum, and a measurement of something I’d not recalled having seen before, titled “Tymp 226Hz” - so I have no means of judging what it means; the pic of that test is part of my . Reviewing several years of several providers’ tests show that I’d had that test done more than once, but still have no clue as to the meaning. So far, this one’s unique in that particular test on this round, but the game is still afoot and others may present as I go along.
I’d selected this provider due to my understanding, from having read various posts, opinions, experiences and other stuff here, that the Phonak Audeo Infinio I90 was a game changer.
Along with that was a breathtaking $9750 cost, which included a 3 year service plan and two titanium ear molds. That was mitigated by United Health Care contributions of $1150 per ear, a ‘discounted’ (no cost) 3-year care plan, and on complaint about my having to eat all of the mold and restocking fee, meaning I was at risk for $875, to return if my expectations/needs weren’t met after trying these, a backing off of the mold costs yielding an actual cost of $6200, with only $175 at risk.
That’s still, shall we say, an “interesting” cost. That said, the reason I wanted to give these folks a try was that among others, they featured the Phonak line. Much discussion can be found here on the game-changing noise suppression of this unit and I was anxious to see what it was all about. Well, actually, to see how much it would cost in the end; see above about THAT ![]()
As to the provider, he’s a VERY experienced audiologist, with Beltone Rookie of the Year, and a shelf full of other Beltone awards before he went independent, so I have no concerns over his “chops” - but for whatever reason/s, my results of my various tests were markedly better here than have been my numbers elsewhere.
I left there without an impression for my titanium molds, needing to process the staggering cost, and also thinking I’d seen something elsewhere suggesting that Phonak’s latest didn’t have to cost that much. So, no numbers of reasons why I didn’t pull the trigger; it’s just the highest cost by far, so far.
That said, it may be that I choose this model in the end due to its superiority in noise suppression, as seen in many posts and testimonials here (what drove me to do this, in reality). However, it appears that this may be available from other providers at a notably lesser cost, so I’m pursuing those avenues, for now. Such as, available at a provider marginally less time away from my home, report coming next week:
