Sennheiser Sonite Rise struggles

Greetings to all. I'm relatively new to this forum and today I got serious and plunked in my . Question: given my hearing loss profile, does anyone have some advice I can take to the Costco hearing aid specialist to address the general distortion that I'm hearing (everyone's voice sounds like Alvin & the Chipmunks, or worse). I had hoped, given my previous good experience with KS10s and Phonaks--admittedly when my hearing was not as bad as it is now--that my Senneheiser Sonite Rise aids would serve me well. But this has not been the case. I have had three or four adjustments already, with no satisfactory results. I am still within the six month window for returns, so I can opt out of these altogether, if need be. Thanks for any counsel.

Those Alvin et al sounds are likely (based on the info you provided) due to the high frequency gains provided by the (you have substantial high frequency hearing loss).

It is likely (possible) that the old ones were not providing much gain in the high frequencies compared to the new ones.

What you describe sounds like enough info for the fitter to fix the issue.

Things to consider
(1) Are the domes provided optimal for my hearing loss?
(2) Am I using the best fitting formula) (Phonak , NAL-NA2, NAL-NA3, DSLv5).
(3) Did I have ? (real ear measurements): Costco does this -- Did they test you with a microphone inserted inside your ear.

(4) Am I a good candidate for frequency shifting (a.k.a SoundRecover2).
(4) If you have worn them 3+ months with multiple visits, I agree it is worth trying other models.

And, of course, am I still adapting to the new sounds?

When I read your post my first thought was this is your first pair of hearing aids and you need to acclimate to all the new sounds. We see this often here on the forum.

As mentioned these new aids just might be properly fit along with your hearing getting worse, it adds up.

What domes did you use on the KS10 aids? What domes are on the Sonnet Rise aids?

If you do return these aids and try different aids and have the same issues it will be a for sure finger pointer.

I am getting the message that it's possible that this is as good as it's going to get. I am tempted to try the new Philips 9060s that my Costco Hearing Aid specialist says will be available here in Louisville in a couple of weeks. I can also up my investment and try the non-Costco options, like the Phonak Audeo I90 Eon Sphere, which seems to be getting good reviews.

As I continue to read more and more in the forum, I am intrigued by the option of adjusting my own . Is this hard to learn?

I don’t think it’s the hardware, in your case. I’ve also had the KS9s and now these. Where the issue MAY be is in the programming of high-frequency shifting so that sounds that make higher frequencies that are outside of your range of hearing listenable by doing whatever magic happens to make those frequencies hearable (is it octave shifting? Asking those who might know more about this than I).
