With respect to Costco and Specsavers, I did find that there were very little options at Costco for severe to profound loss. If you cannot be fitted with a 105dB receiver, my experience at Costco was that they did not sell any Superpower aids, like the Nadia Lumity SP. That was 2 years ago, and they may have updated their stock since then.

Certainly as @Baltazard says, Costco is amazing value, coming in at half price of the premium aids at Specsavers. The one thing I would say though is that Specsavers sell the Phonak Infinio Sphere, which has the deepsonic noise chip. The Sennheiser Sonite Rise will not have this chip so is just equivalent of the Phonak Infinio (minus the sphere - deepsonic chip).

Agreed. I left Costco because of the lack of choice and experience for severe/profound hearing loss. Bought my Spheres from a regular audiologist. Along the way I’ve discovered a couple of talented people who have improved my hearing experience significantly.

Are they locked or I can DIY them if needed?

I’m in the Scottish Borders and bought my first pair of aids during Covid from Costco Glasgow, 120 mile round trip X2, testing and fitting, but so worth it. Since then I have been able to use Costco Edinburgh, much closer to home. Great price and excellent service.

Costco don’t lock any of their models.

Trialed the Spheres at Specsavers.

I had to return twice as they messed up my earmolds.

I requested REM and they strung me along, reassuring me that it would happen but of course, it did not.

They did not notify me when the audiologist was off sick and that my appointment had therefore been cancelled. I had taken time off work to go in.

Then when my new earmolds arrived - from c-Shell to hollow sleeve - the audiologist told me I had to go back for yet another appointment because they did not have any receivers in store. He wanted to remove the encased receiver from the c-Shell, which I refused.

When I told the audiologist that there was no way I would return and to process a refund, he told me it was my fault for going to different branches. It was the branch I had my initial appointment at but they were being offered cover by another audiologist from another branch. So after multiple trips to the branch further away, I said I would not do that anymore. Anyway, not having receivers for new earmolds shows poor quality assurance.

And the fitting was poor, I tweaked the HAs myself before they became usable to me! So, avoid!

If I am being honest, IMO Specsavers is by some distance a poor hearing aid provider, I was gobsmacked how poor their service was, I rate them around “Abysmal”, but perhaps that’s being too kind! On the other hand, their Specs services are very good to excellent, perhaps they should stick to what they are good at? Maybe their opticians spoiled me into thinking their audiologists would be similarly good, they were very poor in comparison… Cheers Kev
