Hi everyone,
I’ve had a pair of Starkey Omega 24 custom hearing aids for nearly two weeks now, and I’m having some major workflow issues with them.
My previous aids were Phonak Vitro M90s. I work in the construction trade (lots of loud tools and tile grinding), and on my Phonaks, I could simply long-press the physical button to completely mute the room microphones while keeping my podcast or music streaming. Once the cut or loud task was finished, another quick press brought the room mics back so I could talk to people.
On these new Starkeys, I’m relying on the tap gestures because they don’t have physical buttons. The double-tap for the “Smart Assistant” is completely useless—it rarely recognizes my voice over the background noise.
My audiologist has offered to send the aids back to Starkey to have a physical button fitted to the faceplate. He claims that adding this button will allow me to use them exactly like my old Phonaks to manually mute and unmute the room mics on the fly while streaming.
However, from what I’ve researched in the Pro Fit software, Starkey doesn’t seem to allow you to map a physical button to a direct “Mute/Unmute” toggle the way Phonak Target does—especially during an active Bluetooth stream.
Has anyone with Starkey Omega AI experience actually managed to get a physical button or gesture to act as a reliable, manual room-mute switch while streaming? I don’t want to waste weeks sending these back to the factory if the software won’t even support what my audiologist is promising.
Thanks in advance for any insights!
