Turn Your Phone into an Auracast Microphone with FlooGoo FMA120

This Android app is great for older Androids w/o Auracast capability – i.e., pre-Android 16.

However, FlooMic shouldn’t require FlooGoo HW on Android 16 devices – e.g., Pixel 8 Pro – as these devices already have the appropriate HW.

Any chance of updating FlooMic to not require FlooGoo HW on Android 16 ??

FlooMic and FlooCast complain about missing “Google Play” services. Any reason why these apps need these services, which aren’t available on some Android devices ?

Thanks for your patience. Could you share a screenshot of FlooCast when your dongle is connected to the PC? That will help me see what might be missing.

Your posts said to install the special 1.1.6 for hearing aid users. You asked if i was using .6
I was . as you see below. Now what ? You mean I should update to an earlier firmware?

We’d be happy to support that if Android 16 expose this hardware to app developers. As mentioned in the following post, we also found the broadcast function provided by a Samsung phone can’t work well (it can only broadcast local media, not live mic) with hearing aids.

Our dongle + app exists to give people something that works today, rather than waiting on future updates.

Your settings look good. Please plug the dongle into your phone. Before making a call, play some local or streaming audio and confirm you can hear it through your Phonak—this verifies the connection.

On a call, check the call audio output and select the dongle (it may appear as ‘FMA120’ or ‘QCC3086’) so the audio is routed to your hearing aids.

I tested this with Apple’s Lightning-to-3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter (your iPhone 12 uses Lightning, not USB-C) and an FMA121—it works as described: the caller’s voice is routed to the 3.5 mm output (as with wired headphones), the FMA121 forwards that audio via Bluetooth to Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, and the iPhone’s built-in mic is used for your voice. The Samsung earbuds are paired with the FMA121, not the iPhone.

Since your Phonak supports classic Bluetooth, you don’t have to wait for the FMA121. You can use a Bluetooth audio transmitter/source adapter (plugged into your iPhone via the Lightning-to-3.5 mm adapter) as the “wired headphone” path. Just make sure to disconnect your Phonak from the iPhone’s Bluetooth first—otherwise iOS will prioritize that Bluetooth connection and use the hearing-aid mic instead of the iPhone’s built-in mic.

This whole situation has me feeling quite obtuse. Lets see if I get this:

I understand the Lightning to Audio adapter. But I also need the adapter to have a USB A port - correct to plug in your 120 - right? A bulkier solution for sure.

Also disconnecting Phonak from BT - if done by shutting off BT - affects other things - like temperature sensors if being used…not terrible, but just noting.

And the Phonak App then does not work. So have to use the phone or instrument volume buttons - right?

You don’t need the FMA120 for this setup. A small Bluetooth audio adapter like the one below will do—the built-in battery and classic Bluetooth let it pair with your Phonak. I’m not sure whether this specific model has volume buttons, but many similar adapters do, so you can adjust the speaker volume directly on the adapter.

Since your Phonak uses classic Bluetooth (not MFi) on iPhone, you can disconnect it from Settings → Bluetooth by tapping the “i” next to the device and choosing Disconnect—no need to turn off Bluetooth on your phone.

The Lightning-to-3.5 mm adapter only sends sound out from the iPhone to your Bluetooth adapter (and then to your hearing aids). If your Phonak hearing aids support two connections at the same time, you don’t need to disconnect them from the iPhone. You’ll just need to switch the sound output during a call by tapping the speaker button on the call screen and choosing “Headphone” (or something similar). The iPhone’s microphone will always stay active.

If your Phonak doesn’t allow two connections, the adapter won’t work unless you disconnect the hearing aids from the phone.

The magic lies in the type of 3.5 mm plug:

• TRS (3 sections, no mic): iPhone keeps using its own microphone. This is what the BT adapter uses.

• TRRS (4 sections, with mic): iPhone switches to the headset’s microphone.

For example, the Apple Earpod uses a 4-ring (TRRS) plug.

Not able to rename it on the phone… as the instructions state, some devices can’t be renamed on the phone… so I guess the PC would be the same restriction…makes sense that I rename it in the Target software. Will try later.
