I may still have a Q20 sitting around in my inactive surplus. When I follow the link above, I don’t see an option to purchase the retrofit kit they mention in the article.
You can buy the Zinwa Q25 Pro outright for US$420 (about C$580). Alternatively, there’s a US$320 mod kit (about C$440) that adds the more modern components to a Q20 if you happen to still own one.
Further research shows the phone only comes with a basic Android 13. It will likely be missing the Bluetooth LE Audio needed for some of the JEP 30 feature set.
That is a blast from the past! I think I do have one hanging around. But not being able to have makes it not a good choice for me.
Yes, I need the !! I am really upset to find out that Apple has dropped the ball on this, and that it’s a major problem for me now! I don’t know what I’m going to do.
Yes, I could get an Android phone, but it wouldn’t connect with my Apple Watch, and my Calendar, Contacts, Messages, etc. which are all Mac apps. The Apple system really works well together, however . . . not having LE Audio is terrible. There is no telling when that will be fixed. Unless I had 2 phones, which I did for a while; I don’t really want to do that, too much juggling.
In my last appointment, our fitter gave me with vents, size 2M. But I still have problems with the domes migrating out a bit when I chew (and maybe when I talk?). Then, I get feedback.
Well, as I said above, at my last appointment, he gave me with vents, but they migrate out a bit when I chew, then giving me feedback, even though I tried to push them back in.
Plus, the sound streaming phone calls in my aids are incomprehensible, and streaming music is unbearable, even though I’ve optimized everything I can in the app.
Yes you heavily invested in the apple ecosystem, so it makes no sense to switch to android.
TBH, most iOS user that do, find it almost transparent to use their apps, but the watch is another story.
Since you are apple all the way, what about getting the Airpod 2 or 3, and imputing your via the app? You may find Music will come alive, and phone calls should be solid, too.
Of course you have to be in a country which allows that functionality.
You didn’t say if your fitter set up the programming for your Jabras I recommened. I also really advise you to get custom earrmolds for your degree of loss to stop the slipping & sliding., and improve the sound above what domes can do.
I did that already, but I am pretty sure that he cut the line too short, so it doesn’t really do the job. I have to email him (just got his email) and say that at the next appointment I need new sports locks.
I doubt that that will be sufficient all of the time though, especially when I wear masks, which is the most difficult. Although, I need to try a thing that makes the over the ears kind attach at the back.
The N95 masks that I bought seem to be too small; one back of the head attachment broke off the first time I tried to put it on. I have to try again and see if I can make them work or not. There is no way my husband could fit in one of them.
They look awfully clinical too, which I didn’t want, especially for when I go out to festive things like the ballet.
I did buy a Deaf Metal device with pretty earrings, which I haven’t tried yet, but will need. Althoughhttps://forum.hearingtracker.com/u/blue_pearl1, it’s a lot for everyday usage to manage all the fine finger work—I have a lot of problems with that now from neurological damage, as well as bad eye to hand coordination. Ahhh, the joys of getting older with conditions! But it sure beats the alternative!
Yes, thank you, it is reassuring to get confirmation of what I thought I probably should do, and let go of being upset that Apple is behind the curve on Bluetooth, making it bad for users.
It makes no sense to try to use Android at this point.
Btw, I don’t expect the watch to have a mini HA app in it to make changes, although it sure would be helpful. I can, however, answer the phone from my watch, if it somehow doesn’t do it on my HAs. But I don’t know if I can do both.
It isn’t decipherable on the HAs anyway. Plus, who answers the phone without knowing who it is anymore?? Definitely, not me. With all of the endless robocalls, whether from pharmacies, doctor’s offices, dunning calls, not to mention spam calls—arghh.
I cut and pasted all of everyone’s suggestions to give to him. I forget which were yours (will look up). He worked with many of them, and was impressed by everyone’s knowledge. He’s eager to learn. I gave him the web address, but forgot to make it for the forum, which is surprisingly difficult to find.
Thank you, I do think that I probably need molds. I will email him about that and other things before our next appointment, which won’t be as soon as I’d like.
The tails on the sports grip for me have not been shortened, they circle right up to the top of that inner depression in my ear.
My N95 mask has loops that go over my ears. As the Jabra is so small & light one has to be careful removing masks & glasses as they can pull the aid body off my ear… though with my sports clip the speaker does not fall out of my ear hole. I wear mine while bicycling without any problems.
My fitter cut the sports lock so that it is only 1 inch long, which I think is too short. It doesn’t stay curled in my ear at all. Am I right that it should be longer??
I need to ask him to give me another one that is not cut so short, I believe.
Yes, the aids are so small and light, they dislodge very easily, even when I’m trying to be careful taking a mask off, or the same with my reading glasses, or my headband that I wear all the time to keep my long hair out of my eyes. But it’s primarily the mask that is the problem.
Ah, I see you said sports clips, not sports locks! That is different. I don’t think that I’d want that all of the time, but maybe at home or while being especially active, as in sports or exercise.
I added the US flag to my profile. Even with your directions, it took quite a bit of sleuthing to find how to do it.
“See, if you had a Pixel, you’d be able to have Call Screening, which keeps those pesky scammers/robo, etc. from ever ringing your phone.
Sorry, I couldn’t resist!
Another advantage to molds, is those mask loops won’t dislodge your .”
Well, here I am in the walled garden, wondering if it’s the best choice now. I will have to see about Apple and my phone provider to activate Call Screening.
Plus, ask my doctors’ offices, pharmacies, and other companies that I do business with to send texts or emails instead. It’s majorly annoying to have them robocall. I used to have that set up with my landline (in the distant past)!
And, yes, I think that molds are in my future. I guess that the fitter would determine what kind to use, right? I’m not knowledgeable enough with that.
@flashb1024 I just looked up again about your suggestions for the fitter. I do think that I will probably need molds. I don’t know what kind I should be fitted with, presumably he would determine that.
At my last appointment, he did call up Jabra while with me to figure out what to do to address the issues that I listed, including the awful streaming of phone calls. However, that issue remains the same. Yes, I am upset to discover that is what I need, and that Apple has dropped the ball on that one!
I looked into getting AirPods last night to help with that. But was depressed to discover that the new ones: AirPods 3 and 4 have horrible reviews for the sound!! Not all of them, of course, but quite a lot.
And when I looked at the 2’s that were said to be much better for sound and reliability, they aren’t available through Apple.
They are still sold by Amazon and Best Buy, but they have too many bad reviews, saying that, although sold as new, many had dirt, hair, and scratches, and didn’t work well, or at all! And neither Apple, nor Amazon and Best Buy would let them return them, or helped with all of the issues of not working well or at all!
Some who bought them, said that when they had the Geek Squad try to fix them, the GS said that the number on the pods didn’t match up with the number on the box, and that they were obviously fake.
I guess the next step, besides getting more help from the fitter with molds, etc., is to try the 3’s and see how they are. Arghh!
I guess that I’ll start with the fitter and molds and him optimizing the fitting first. This is a looong process! Which is worse because I didn’t have aids for so long.
I did buy some in 2013(!), but had an awful experience with the audiologist, and had to return the one that wasn’t lost. The were CITE (if that is the right way to say it), and the audiologist who was there for my fitting (not the one I was working with) put them in inadequately, and one fell out somewhere in NYC, and I never could find it. The main audiologist I had been working with, wouldn’t take responsibility for it, and I was supposed to eat the loss of the insurance for this fiasco!
On top of that, she put in for reimbursement from our insurance when I had returned it months before, and cashed a check for $5,000!! I found out well after the fact. Well, very long over with.
Custom molds (which I use and like) are not magical when it comes to wearing masks. Back when I was wearing a mask to PT, the elastic ear loop would get tangled up with the receiver wire, requiring me to remove both at the same time. Very easy to flip the into places unknown. Like under the car seat.
Like the man said, there is no free brunch, Buffy.
The poor sound on phone calls is a puzzle. My phone-call streaming has always been one of the better things about wearing HA. Jabra 30s/S25 currently, but also very good with my older S10e and Resound Ones (and even a generation prior). I-Phone users on the forum report good results as well. My only suggestion is re-boot your phone frequently, and If comfortable doing so - completely uninstall the App, download it again and do the pairing again.
Well, here I am in the walled garden, wondering if it’s the best choice now. I will have to see about Apple and my phone provider to activate Call Screening.
Walled gardens can also keep the bad guys out.
I like the regular and quick security updates, private relay for browsing, hide my email etc and also not having to rely on a company whose business model is to collect, use and sell your user data.
Yes it may limit some of your options but my preference is the secure but closed Apple ecosystem.
Make sure you are looking the Apple Pro 2 and Pro 3’s. I have the Airpod Pro 2’s and they get great review even from some of the audiophile publications. The Airpod Pro 3’s are reported even better.
Yes Apple is probably only offering the newer Airpod Pro 3’s, but that should mean some good deals on Airpod Pro 2’s. The Pro 3’s have some benefits (longer battery life etc) but the Pro 2’s are also great.
You should love music streamed through with hearing assistance set to your
Wow, I am just seeing this again and registering it—that’s great! I have a relatively new phone (and watch) that I still have a lot to optimize and learn about. Thank you!
