I bought my Jabra Enhance Pro hearing aids in 2023 at Costco. The last time I had them in for repair I was left with two programs: Hear In Noise and All-Around. The other programs I had are gone. I have found that the Hear In Noise program in noisy restaurant environments makes matters significantly worse. I am reading that there are other options in the Hear In Noise program, but I don’t seem to have them. Any suggestions?
Have you contacted a hearing specialist at the nearest Costco? Someone should be able to help you tweak or provide advice on the programs you have (as well as add, or re-add, the Music and Outdoor programs). The other option is to learn to self-fit if you’d like more control over things. I went that route, and while still a novice, it’s nice to make adjustments as needed.
I now live about 15 minutes away from the closest Costco but previously lived an hour and a half from the nearest store and was able to make a remote follow up appointment. Depending on your circumstances, that may also be an option.
My last attempt to interface with them was frustrating. When I visited the store and asked about a 2-month adjustment (as I was advised to do), the person at the counter asked, “Well, what’s your problem with the aids?” When I tried to explain, I got stonewalled. I’ll try again. I live close by my Costco.
Maybe a different specialist will be more receptive. I had a frustrating experience with one (my session ran out of time and I left the store with squealing aids just days before leaving on vacation) and asked for an appointment with someone else after explaining my predicament. It was a couple of days later by a lady that was incredibly helpful. She fixed the feedback issue and did not discourage me from self-fitting when I mentioned my interest. Perhaps you’ll get similarly lucky.
I currently discovered a way to tame the Hear In Noise settings in the Jabra.app the official support app for Enhance Pro 20 & 30 available in the Google Play Store (and equivalent from Apple for their iPhones). Using adjustments in the app for the setting for Noise Filters (and Wind Noise), I was able to tone down and enjoy listening to TV programs that elevate the crowd noise backround cheering to foreground levels (like AGT). The easy adjustments can be made for any of your programs in the Sound Enhancer setting. I created a favorite of the new settings so it’s easy to switch when the background gets too loud. That extra setting is not remembered and must be reset when I have to re-Pair the hearing aids with the phone, but it’s easy to set it up again.
Right now, I’m fighting a problem with my Pixel 8 phone with Enhance Pro 20 app on Android 16 being reset daily to the MAXIMUM setting by something in the OS or App. If I get a phone call or make one before resetting both noise filters to MINIMUM, I can’t hear the other party. Awaiting a fix from either the app or the OS.
I had a really good visit with an audiologist at Costco in Overland Park KS this past Friday. He’s got a great understanding about the interactions between the Jabra Enhace Pro series, the Jabra.app, and how the Pixel 8 handles the aids on Android 16.
The problem with EVERY @#$!# DAY the Noise and Wind Noise filters were reset to maximum reducion, resulting in not hearing the other end of a phone call until I discovered them and set them to none. Every Day. He explained that the audiologist who sets up the app has a choice: reset every day to 200, which then depends on the environment: if it gets quieter, the app will back off on the noise filters. He eliminated the reset with programming software, and the extreme annoyance is gone.
I no longer have to program Favorites for All Around and Hear-in-Noise. They’ve been set, again by programming software, to be set the way I wanted them (equalizer, noise filters, microphone in Aids). No more having them changed every day,
He was unable to determine what caused the EP 20’s frequent disconnects of one of the pair, more aften than not required to disconnect/reconnet (and check to be sure that had not been reset. But I have not had a partial disconnect since. Could have been an Android 16 update, or an update to the Jabra.app that quietly caused the fix. At any rate, problem gone.
4, The visit to the store also got replacement top-half covers from GN for each aid – and equally-sized domes. The covers now contain the equivalent of to prevent the case microphone openings in the aids from being blocked (perhaps by hair spray or hair gel). Maybe this explains why phone conversations used to prefer using the Phone’s microphone (despite my repeatedly forgetting to pick up the phone to speak into the mic). Now, conversations with every one saying the microphones in the HAs are BETTER and LOUDER sounding.
All in all, I’m pleased with the Enh Pro 20’s overall performance now that the annoyances have been fixed, and the wide ranging sound quality and reliability is hugely improved.
I’m especially impressed with the performance of the audiologist, and glad I insisted on a :”geek” to discuss my problems. Thank you, Sir.
