Help Purchasing Cochlear N7 Rechargeable Batteries

Hi would anybody know if its possible to purchase the rechargeable batteries for the Cochlear Nucleus 7 processor through a second hand company?

I lost my rechargeable battery and when I contacted cochlear they told me they no longer have the accessories for the N7 because it is been discontinued and it is no longer supported. I knew the N7 was discontinued, but I thought the accessories would still be available to purchase.

The cochlear representative said I can upgrade to the N8. Why would I upgrade to a $10,000 device when I have 2 perfectly functioning N7’s and just need a $250 battery? That is absurd and an underhanded way of Cochlear cornering their recipients into upgrading.

If I cannot find a rechargeable battery second hand then ill just go with the disposable ones.

It looked to me like they were available on Cochlear’s website. If not I saw them on EBay.

I remember when the N8 came out, lots of talk about the N7 batteries working on the N8 processors. I got a feeling the N8 batteries will work on the N7 processors.

@Deaf_piper or @Bimodal_user can probably answer this question right quick.

The N7 batteries are available to certain countries and patients that have N7’s still in warranty. The USA has moved on to the N8.

@Lou82 rumors went around the community here in Australia, that N7 wouldn’t work on N8. Also that any N8 processor sent for repairs that was found to have had N7 batteries uses would find that there n8 warranty was made void.

The N7 compact batteries are a mm or two wider than N8 and the same in compact battery length

I’ve not physically tried it myself, but the N8 (silver colour) (N7 sand colour) do fit the N8 Y charger.

Recipients from the Aus community have tried it and it does work.

I would certainly give it a go. I can’t see a physical reason why the N8 won’t work on the N7. I’ve just connected my N7 battery to my N8 processor, I’m now listening to music from Spotify. So yes it definitely does work.

This morning I put my N8 processor and my N7 battery on to see if they worked. It’s still going strong, I’m a bit surprised as I didn’t charge the battery first. OOPS! I spoke too soon it just died on me.

It seems that cochlear added a 3rd sized rechargeable battery for their N8 which is smaller than the two which were available for the N7. Is this the battery size that is connected to your N7 in the photo you shared and you confirmed it worked with the N7?

If the battery voltage is the same my best guess is no. The same charger will charge either battery, I would say same voltage, no problem.

Mic filters are another thing. I found them on eBay but different colors. Didn’t bother me.

@Lou82 ive only ever used compact batteries. You can get a standard size, and compact size in the rechargeable batteries.

The difference between the compact N7 & N8 is just the thickness of the casing.

It works both ways. N7/N8 batteries with the N7N8 processor. I’ve tried personally. Right now, on a daily basis, I use both N7 & N8 batteries in an N8.

If real damage would be done by using the wrong battery with the wrong device, then the engineers would have ensured that they wouldn’t fit. I’m guessing that Cochlear has to have an official line that they aren’t interchangeable because of some certification rule.

I’m bilateral since 2023. My N7 batteries work in my N8 processors. Also my N8 batteries work in the Y chargers I got for my N7’s. Both batteries and processors have the same connection.
