Costco gave me Sonite Rise loaners. Wow, a huge improvement over my Philips 9050’s. I will comment on an existing thread later. When I asked about the Rise, my fitter said she could not hit targets with the Rise. Other fitters having same problem and they are getting factory rep in troubleshoot.

Those aids should hit target if properly set up. They are probably fitting you with open domes when you would benefit from more closed acoustics like power domes or even molds. Target is probably asking for M receivers when you need P's.

Fitter was making a general comment about the Rise. I was there getting custom molds for the 9050’s I purchased last month. I was asking about the Rise because I want to try Bluetooth Classic. She hooked me up with loaner Rise.

Looking at your , it wouldn't surprise me if they were having difficulty matching to targets where your hearing loss is at severe levels with a vented fitting without hitting the limits of the feedback manager. Without information about the acoustics of the hearing aid and your ear it is difficult to comment further. Your hearing configuration isn't an easy one to fit because of the need to avoid occlusion and the severe degree of loss in the high frequencies requiring a lot of gain which in turn increases the risk of feedback whistling. There are going to be compromises in your fitting with typical hearing aid processing.
You'd be better off switching to a brand like Signia that uses own voice processing to limit own-voice occlusion and allow for a more occluded fitting to improve the chances of achieving audibility of sounds in the high frequencies without feedback whistling. It may be more expensive, but in your case it'd almost certainly be money well spent for a much better outcome.

Costco has the twin of the Signia IX BCT (Rexton +) with OVP for $1600.
Curious: How does a provider, in this case, choose between a sealed dome/mold (at the expense of occlusion) vs using frequency shifting with a vented one?

I do remember back a few years Phonak had technology for own voice that minimized occlusion that worked well.

Thanks for taking time to give thorough response. Fitter’s comment was general, not specific to me. I was asking her opinion about Rise because I was looking for an alternative to 9050’s. The Rise loaners have open domes but will need molds if I buy them. Fitter made a couple coarse adjustments for the trial period.
The 9050’s sound terrific with molds. Fitter dialed back treble which helped a lot. BUT, I do a lot of streaming and cannot get a stable Bluetooth connection to my Apple devices.

It's a judgement call and ultimately depends on interaction with patient. I think default is often fairly and accept that patient will miss a lot of highs or use . If patient wants a more occlusive fit, providers will usually accomodate but will often not suggest it. My suggests an open fit but I'm quite happy with custom molds and fairly small vents. One member on the forum I know of has good low frequency hearing but uses a completely occluded fit and is happy with it.

I suspect the OP has hearing all the way through their frequencies hence not reaching targets due to acoustics. I like your thinking about . It worked great for me for a number of years.

The best fitting is one that balances everything in a way that is acceptable to the end user. technologies are general used sparingly with adults because they require a lot of counseling and an adaptation period before the end user both accepts and can utilize the shifted frequency information effectively.

Phonak's solution was a toggle that is a gain reduction in practice. Sonova do have OVP patents filed recently but none have been implemented in a product yet.

It was MUCH potential benefits left on the table with prescribing open domes, because of not reaching target gains due to low feedback threshold.
The deep placed power domes trial is worth for testing. Keep in mind that for deep placement you may need smaller size.
What receiver power do you have? Is it the same as Phonak's?

The Rise are only loaners to test Bluetooth Classic. I do not know receiver power. Fitter did a quick and dirty fit.

Ugh. Do you perceive distortions with bare ears when high frequency sound is played? (supposing you have proper loudspeaker or you remember highest tones from audiometry). 2-8 kHz.
I'm asking to assess (roughly) whether you have severe dead regions.

No distortions. I think I have caused confusion talking about two sets of ’s. I have a pair of Philips 9050 with acrylic molds with 3mm vent and 85 receiver. I just got the molds yesterday and the feedback is terrible. They also have annoying constant static.
I also picked up a pair of Sonite Rise loaners to evaluate Bluetooth Classic. They were only roughly fitted…that is, not optimized. They have 2M receivers with open domes. I really like them so far. I will probably buy the Rise but am concerned about feedback if I get molds. My fitter said I will need molds on the Rise.
My fitter also said she has trouble hitting targets with OTHER patients who buy Rise. She may or may not have this issue with me.

No wonder, 3mm, that's very large. .. Do you have a problem with the occlusion effect?

Actually, eamolds usually helps with feedback compared to domes. The problem is not molds, but very large vent. And very conservative approach of , because she is afraid about potential rejection of fitting.
They also have annoying constant static.
There's also a possibility to try with changing soft noise reduction (called "expansion") feature.

With open domes or 3mm vents in earmolds, I wouldn't be surprised that issue is also with you, sorry for being blunt.
