Thanks for the reply Speckles1! With the info you gave me and some questions from Apple engineers nagging at me, I decided to do some searching on the web. The only thing I found was where someone having some similar Bluetooth problems with upgrading from a iPhone 4 to a 5 or 5s and suggested to attach the iPhone to iTunes and boot into DFU mode, (caution: this erases everything on the iPhone) then iTunes will request to restore with a fresh install of the current ios, which is currently still 8.0.2. I did this and brought the iPhone up paired the Linx to the iPhone and downloaded the ReSound Smart app. It worked for a few minutes and started doing the same dropping one aid and then turning it back on every minute or so. I tried streaming music and noticed that the sound was much richer then before the DFU restore process. This got me to thinking about the Apple engineers questions and I decided that since the sound was better, something had definitely changed but, the Linx were still having the same problem. So, I turned off WiFi which did nothing to help. I left WiFi off, then, at 11:30 am Saturday, I turned off cellular. Immediately ,the Linx started working normally and continued to work flawlessly the rest of Saturday while I was watching football. I could adjust the volume, bass and treble again! I decided to turn WiFi on and see if the Linx stayed connected. They did, so then I turned on cellular and they immediately stopped working again. I then tried one last test. I turned off LTE and left cellular turned on . The Linx stayed connected and everything is working as it should. As I was about to write this, Apple called me and reported that they indeed do have a Bluetooth problem. I gave the Apple engineer the info about how I got my problem resolved but asked they continue to work on the LTE problem. From my experience in troubleshooting IT problems for over 30 years, it seems apparent now that the LTE is somehow interfering with the Bluetooth and knocking out the communication between the 2 hearing aids. After that, they, seem to go through a 90 second timeout routine, come back on a minute or so and then gets knocked out again by the LTE. This probably explains the endless loop of on again, off again. The fresh install of ios 8.0.2 from DFU mode seems to have helped tremendously. The sound is better and richer. By the way, to get to DFU mode, hold the home button and the wake/sleep button down together until you see the Apple logo on the iPhone screen while attached to iTunes. When you see the Apple logo, release the wake/sleep button and continue holding the Home button until you are asked if you want to restore on the the iTunes screen. You will have to set everything up from scratch and enter all passwords and download all apps and updates. Back UP everything before attempting! Thanks to everyone on here for all the great info and help yo give everyday!
This sounded like a nightmare of a problem. Would you suggest someone get the ReSound LiNX now or wait for all the bugs to be fixed? (if they plan on running iOS8 that is).
I really like my ReSound Linx 961s, the sound seems so natural, but I’ll be the 1st to say that when an upgrade comes along, you might end up with the kind of problems I had. It is a decision you have to make on your own. The one reason I like them so much is that I can adjust them to any situation and still be able to hear. Although, when you can’t, it is a living hell!
Hey Cicada, tried turning off LTE and doing a DFU, no change for me. Everything works except when trying to stream any radio station to the aids. Tele calls and I-tunes will stay on, but not any radio. It will stay if I play it through the I phone speakers however. I went on apple support web forum and saw that a lot of users are having problems pairing to their vehicles thru bluetooth. Now we wait for apple for a fix??
I saw an article yesterday that mentioned there are major bugs with Bluetooth and pairing to various models of vehicles since iOS 8 was released. 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 didn’t fix them, but by all accounts it will be resolved in iOS 8.1 which will be released on Oct 20 (“according to reliable Apple sources” LOL).
Thanks Cicada for your excellent troubleshooting work and writeup of the steps you took :). I’m puzzled why a complete DFU installation and restore would give a much richer sound though. I’d love to get this but doing a full DFU install and having to re-download all apps, etc again is so much of a hassle
I just received my NEW RESOUND UNITE hearing aids October 3rd. I love them. I had Oticon Duals and they were not good. Lots of feedback, could never get rid of that problem…but these Resound work perfectly. I have them paired with my TV and phone. I can adjust them from my iphone. I had an official flushing of my Oticon’s down the toilet yesterday.
Just realized that I have LINX, not UNITE. UNITE is the name of the streaming device for the TV. But to repeat…they are working perfectly. NO F------ Feedback like the Oticon’s.

Iceman,
Unfortunately, I must report back that after a while, one of the Linx aids started dropping again but, it seemed that only half the mics were dropped instead of all. That is better but still not good enough. So, I have turned Cellular completely off unless I need to make a phone call and if I am on Wi-Fi, I can still make calls. Music streaming is great with no drops but sometimes it takes 30 - 45 seconds for the other aid to kick in. Once started, it streams great ( I turn off the aids sometime when streaming music) and then adjust up the bass and treble. Phone calls stream great to both aids and the sound is better on the phone via the aids also. richierich19681996,
I’m not sure why the sound is better after the DFU restore. My iPhone originally had 8.0 out of the box, then when I got home, I backed up my 5S and restored it to the iPhone 6. Then I heard about all the 8.0.1 problems and that Apple had removed it. I then waited until 8.0.2 came out and saw that it was fixing some problems so I upgraded to iOS 8.02. This made me suspect something went wrong on those restores or the upgrade. Someone else had mentioned that the sound was better on the iPhone 6 so I was also starting to wonder why I did not hear anything any better. That’s when I ascertained the one aid dropping by removing one aid at a time for 30 minutes. For some reason, my sound is better now, not exactly sure why with all the changes I have tried to get this dropping one aid fixed. SO, now at least I know the aids are fine, which I thought they were all the time. With cellular off, they both stay up all the time. Maybe one day Apple will figure out how not to affect Bluetooth with Cellular. After all, is that asking too much of the company that sells so many cellular phones?

Love it!! You might just be pushing your luck there… :o

Hey Guys, well after trying everything I could think of to keep streaming to the aids on I gave up and called resound tech support to see if they know anything about it. They state that it is a bluetooth problem like we figured and that apple is coming out with a update next week like Richard has said in a prior post. Lets hope its a fix for us…

Yes, that’s right and it’s official now - iOS 8.1 will be released Monday US time (Tuesday for me). Let’s see what they manage to break with this release…(getting cynical in my old age hehehehe). So far no issues for me with iOS 8.0.2 but I expect that will change when I install the 8.1 “upgrade”.

I am new in this Forum and with .Just these days I’m deciding to buy both iPhone6 as Linx.
Could someone tell me for sure if the iPhone6 well understood with Resound Linx? Are the problems have to do with software or also with hardware? (I apologize for my English) Thanks

I am not exactly sue what you are asking but I can tell you that I have had a good experience with the linx 1 st with an iPhone 5 and now with iphone 6 plus. I have not had the connectivity issues some of the other posters have had. And the problems the other posters have had do seem to be a software issue with the new iOS 8. I may have something to say after I update to iOS 8.1.

Background: I bought my first earlier-generation aids, with PE tubing to channel the “receiver” (speaker) output to the meatus, 4 years ago. Replaced them in August with ReSound Linx 961 BTE devices and the iPhone 5S iOS 7 bluetooth connection. Mild wide-band tinnitus, mild , some trouble with speech perception. (If you think you need to know my detailed for the purposes of a user forum, you probably don’t understand psychological acoustics well enough.) Ride a bicycle and enjoy listening to natural sounds, situations audiologists seem not to think about much. Was the first adopter for this combination at a well-schooled audiology clinic.
Within an hour after getting the new ReSound aids, I stuck my head out the door and heard wind faintly rustling green leaves on the trees for the first time in many years. Can’t imagine a better marketing tool! Quite satisfied with the purchase, overall.
Yes, the delay between an incoming phone call and being able to converse is a negative.
Leaving the phone on the table and going somewhere else in the house results in problematic bluetooth disconnects, which is expected.
Tip for those with older, larger BTE aids: The hinge is different. With the aid BTE, push upward on the switch/door to turn the Linx device on. My older, larger one turned on by pressing forward with them on my ear.
Post #132 is helpful regarding the modes (“programs”) and their names. (Technically in the firmware, these names are in what is called lookup tables; the program is downloaded when one updates the firmware.)
Seems to me the high price of these devices is almost all engineering and first-production-unit design costs. Price should drop as competition develops, but greed is certainly a factor.
ReSound could be quite a bit more informative to customers about power drain if it wanted to. I hope the battery indicator in the app is improved in future firmware. Surely a clever engineer can come up with a way to measure more than 1.6 bits and communicate that to a many-GHz phone!
Wind and vehicle noise are important on a bicycle in traffic. The audiologists could not come up with a “bike” mode that is significantly better than leaving the ReSound aids in my pocket, but promise to adjust the devices at any time if I need them to do so.
I use Music mode for walks in the field/woods and asked the audiology folks to crank up the default volume (the amplification that is set when powering-up the devices) on Music mode, by 4 . The audiologist said >4 dB would risk feedback. This will help if I don’t have my phone available outdoors; I can use the button on the devices to select Music mode and hear faint outdoor sounds. If at a concert, I will have the phone available and can always lower the volume with the it.
I find the GPS-controlled “My Places” feature fairly useless. When going to a restaurant, for example, it is very handy to use the phone to turn down the volume on one ear to avoid kitchen or other-table noise but the phone cannot know which ear, so setting the phone to “Restaurant” automatically is no benefit. I suspect it IS of benefit to folks who can’t remember to adjust the aids when they go to certain places though.
The maintenance guide is not as bad as many instruction manuals written by non-native English speakers, but is unwieldy in that it describes a suite of models and is unclear about which model’s features are being described. The cleaning instructions seem to have been written by a committee of lawyers who think the external auditory meatus is sterile.

Next time I go for a walk I am going to try your suggestion of using my music program. I also love to ride my bicycle, but I have never worn my aids will riding. I am going to try wearing my aids next ride to see how that goes.

Thanks. I would apreciate publish here your experience with the last version of IOS8. Although I think it should be an Apple or Resound representative who informed us accurately and warranty.
Has anyone had good results with an iPhone 6 (not 6 Plus) and Linx 961’s? I’ve seen some people with a iPhone 6 Plus on here that say they are not having any problems. Can anyone with iPhone 6 and Linx 961 tell me if their aids are working correctly? I have an appointment with my audiologist at 11:15 today and I am afraid all she will say is that this is an Apple Bluetooth problem. I upgraded to 8.1 Monday as soon as it was released and I am still having problems with 1 aid seeming to turn off and then it comes back on a few minutes later. It happened yesterday and last night. This morning, they seem better, but will the problem start after a while? Who knows. Maybe 1 aid is bad and that is why I am having so many problems. I am going to ask the audiologist to test them today. When I am having the problem, usually my left aid, I turn on music in the room, mute the right aid and then turn the left aid all the way up and I don’t hear any difference. When the left aid connects again and I do the same test, I hear the left aid get louder and I can hear out of the left aid. It then turns off again, although, the mics seem to stay on, just not inputting any sound to my ear. Does anyone have any suggestions for me today with my appointmernt to help resolve this? Any comments will be appreciated.
Cicada,
I use mine with the ipod touch since I’m waiting for the android app. But just a thought: are you sure the stem is inserted tightly into the unit? YOu may want to pull it out and push it back in and see if that makes a difference. I’m saying this because my left one came out part way and I experienced the same thing you are.
Gene

I’ve been using my 961’s with my iPhone 6 for a month now. Definitely better than with my previous 5. Still lose pairing occasionally, but seems better able to re-pair on it’s own. And the sound quality seems to have improved with IOS 8.1.
