I got my new aids 3 days ago. My previous aids, which I wore for 5 years, are Signia’s. As expected there is a notable difference in sound quality. I understand why people call the Jabra’s sound “harsh” and “aggressive”, but I also understand where this leads to better speech clarity. My fitter is great. Spent a fair amount of time with me at my fitting, and I have another appointment in 3 days. I am hoping to I have a better understanding by then. I know that there’s an adjustment period, and I am happy to give it time.
First, I am hearing better in all hearing environments. The first thing I do when I put the aids in, in the morning, is click on the Noise Filter and take down the master volume a couple clicks. If I don’t do that, it’s too loud and too harsh in my quiet home.
I know my brain will (probably) adjust to the volume. What “acoustically” does the Noise Filter do? Will I adjust so I don’t need this?
In this setting I can talk with my husband easily. Different than with the Signia’s, but I guess I want it to sound different…otherwise I wouldn’t get new hearing aids. Yes, better clarity, and I hear him better if he walks into the kitchen to refresh his coffee. So, that’s a big plus.
I have stayed in this program all day and in other than quiet environments everything is wonderful. I don’t even think about adjusting settings, and I hear well. (I never adjusted anything with the Signia’s either.) In general I am hearing better with the Jabra’s.
Watching TV is interesting. Back in my quiet environment. The Jabra’s are better without a streamer then the Signia’s. I can put the Noise Filter on and push up the mid and high frequencies a bit and hear decently. However, I am not happy talking to my husband (my voice), walking on my creaky floors or running water in the sink while in this setting. Suggestions? Will I adjust to these harsher sounds? I have a Signia streamer and I guess I hear the TV better with that but I would rather not use a streamer. I don’t like trying to have a conversation with my husband, about the show, while streaming.
I am really enjoying the speech clarity of the Jabra’s when I am out and about. I am not sure about it in my quiet home environment.
I know there are settings in the fitting software for each hearing environment (quiet being one). What should I ask to try at my appointment in a couple days and what should I expect my brain to adjust to? TIA
