Hearing Aids stuck in "Speech in Car" program

Something I’ve noticed when I was wearing Phonak Lumity 90s and now with Infinio 90s is the hearing aids will remain in “Speech in Car” program long after I exit the car.

The only way I could get the hearing aids to behave properly is to reboot them. Annoying but necessary.

I’m guessing “Speech in Car” is activated by motion, as riding on the transit train will also activate “Speech in Car”. Since this happened to me with two different generation of aids, there must be a glitch.

Has anyone else observed this?

Have your audi adjust the Autosense sensitivity, and make sure it defaults back to the general program.

I’ve never had that problem in any of my 3 Phonak hearing aids. And almost always I use AutoSense.

Speech in Car program is for steady state noises like engines, HVAC, fans, etc.

Like @Bimodal_user , I find that autosense works for me. It was probably more than 90% of the time for me with my paradise aids. It is more than that now with the spheres. I don’t know yet where I can leave it in autosense and where it makes sense to force to music or spherical. I do it out of habit sometimes where I might not need to set it manually.

As an example, I am forcing spherical in restaurants far less often now. It doesn’t flip-flop nearly as much as I thought. Maybe I’ve become more accustomed to the changes and it doesn’t distract me as much?

I dislike Autosense (3/4/5) and just use 2 fixed programmes. It forever switched me out of a decent setting to a worse one.

I stopped using Autosense because the hearing aids would go silent for about 5 seconds each time it switched programs. For example, while watching a match with friends and our team scored everyone cheered loudly, the aids would go silent to change to a loudness program, i could not hear what was being said. Then when the cheering stopped, the aids went silent again while changing to the previous program. So annoying.

Perhaps “AutoSense” means it senses that you are in an auto? :thinking:

Or folks whose stay on the “Speech In Car” setting may be really fast walkers!

Edited to add: Aside from actual perception of speed by a GPS or accelerometer if some is truly a fast walker, my post was just weird speculation.

I use nothing other than Autosense… I rarely use any other programs, I don’t use MyPhonak App ever, I avoid it! Autosense just works, and it is extremely rare for me to encounter a problem… I am wearing my old “Marvel 90 ’s” just now, they are still going strong at 6 years old, sores in my ears have flared up again, the RIC’s cause me zero discomfort…I will wear them for a week or so till my ears heal, then stick my Naida Lumity 90 ’s back in, until the next time! Thinking out loud, the Marvels are still wonderful hearing aids, I still hear extremely well with them, and often chastise myself for upgrading (Twice!!!) but, I guess we , all chase that better hearing “Pipedream”? Although, my world has changed since retirement a couple of years ago, I don’t talk to folks much nowadays… But, I have got into a habit of switching Bluetooth off when watching videos or TV, I have to concentrate more, but I am happy to do so… Cheers Kev :wink:

Are you in an area that has constant train noise or car noise, fairly high volume, when you exit the train or your car? Maybe the hearing aids perceive the noise and stay in the “Speech in Car” program because of that?

No! Each time I noticed this I was indoors, and wondered why my hearing comprehension was off. I always have a habit of using the app to check in which program the were operating. The longest lenghth of time I was in Speech in Car and in an indoor facility was 15 minutes. That should have been ample time for the HAs to switch back to Calm Situation. It’s happened both to my Lumity 90s (AutoSense 5.0) as well as Infinio Sphere 90s (AutoSense 6.0). Indeed strange.

Hum! That sounds annoying with your over-active Autosense.

I think I need to dial mine down, too. Whenever I’m watching a movie - streaming with the Roger V2 - all the action scenes trigger Autosense to dampen down the volume to near zero till the scene is over.

It’s like I want to set it up like my dedicated music program - DNFW dynamic range! Think that could be done by my audi? I see her on FRI.

Do you do that via the myPhonak app on a cellphone?

My aids are supposed to turn mic over to the Roger mic when streaming TV, so I wonder why Autosense kicks in? A question I’ll ask my audi on Friday.

Yes, I activate TV program using the My Phonak app.

In bluetooth connections, do you have “calls” and “audio” both turned on?

When you are connected to Roger, your Phonak app will say “Roger Direct + mic” If you have “audio” turned on in bluetooth connections, and incoming notification will kick you out of Roger program and your phone will say “Bluetooth Streaming” Once the notification goes away, the will revert back to “Roger Direct + mic”

The solution is to turn off “audio”

This is how android works - iPhone, I have no clue.

OK, thank you so much for that detailed reply! I guess I’ll have to reinstall myPhonak app. I removed it cuz my Lumity Life 312s never seem to need any program or setting adjustments! Plus, it seems that having myPhonak app drains battery life faster.

Perhaps another go-round with myPhonak is next…

Should be easy enuf to turn app off when not in use and deselect “stay connected” when app is in use.

I just didn’t find the program adjustments that useful. Also I don’t tend to have my cell phone in hand all day. I guess that’s a big benefit of the 312 Lumity Life aids - they rock just as they are for the most part. :grinning:
