Bring Auracast to Any Hearing Aids with the FlooGoo FMA120

Thanks! Just make sure you also have an transmitter in your setup—it doesn’t need to be the FMA120.

When is in public areas like train stations and airports (let’s hope it happens soon), you would only need a receiver?
Am I correct in my thinking @Ranson ??

Yes, just using an FMA120 in receiver mode with your existing phone is all it takes to make it happen with the hearing aids you already have.
Once public venues realize that their visitors are already equipped, they’ll see that investing in a transmitter is worthwhile. If it seemed like only the latest hearing aids and phones supported the technology, they might assume it’s still years away and not worth adopting just yet.

I’ve just skimmed through the topic, and sorry if I missed it but… does the FMA120 in receiver mode receive classic audio? My use case is that I have a TCL TV that ouputs a BT audio stream that has magically been synchronised with the video. I’d like to use the FMA120 to take that stream. When the Philips 9050 gets I’d reflash the FMA120 to be an Auracast transmitter.

We offer a “relay mode” for the FMA120 that allows it to receive classic Bluetooth audio from your TCL device and then rebroadcast it via . You can then use the receiver mode to route the audio to the 9050.
At the moment, there are no plans to enable relay mode to output audio through the FMA120’s USB interface.

Thanks for the reply. That means two devices and three Bluetooth hops from the tv to my aids. I guess the alternative is one dongle in the tv and one in the phone. Not sure if it would work as a transmitter in the tv. Anyway I was hoping to cheap out with the one dongle.
It’s Sunday btw. Stop working.

Yes, I realize this. Ty! My use case will be when using the FM120 as a transmitter in my Win11 PC or laptop and a pair of with such as Phonak Infinio (once a firmware update enables it).
Another use would be once Auracast is available at a public venue near me I’ll be ready to receive it via my iPhone and current (non Auracast) Phonak Lumity HAs.

This set up would be very good for people who can’t upgrade their Aids to get or don’t want to upgrade their Aids.

Or even all those people walking around with earbuds or headphones on that want to hear a particular TV in a sports bar, or a million other examples.
I think once the general population figures this out is going to explode worldwide.
There will be so many uses for it - far greater than the number of wearers.

Auracast such as Phonak Infinio (once a firmware update enables it).
This should be around the corner. They are working over changes to myphonak now.

If your TV supports USB audio output, you’ll only need two dongles.
And thanks for the Sunday reminder—really kind of you to say that
. A bunch of hearing aid users have been reaching out over the weekend, so I’ve just been rolling with it. Hopefully things will ease up once becomes more common.

It might be Monday morning if one lives in Australia
No. Two hour time difference between Ranson and me. No platypusses (platypi?) this side of the country.

Received a FlooGoo FMA120 recently. I can confirm that I was able to update the firmware, pair it directly with my Phonak Lumity L90-RL , plug it into my PC, and receive the PC Audio directly into my HAs. This is similar to using the TV Connector which I have on my TV.
(I bought the FlooGoo in order to be ready for whenever it becomes publicly available near me. In the meantime, since I only have one dongle and can’t really test the Auracast mode without another Auracast transmitter/receiver, I have a good immediate use for it.)

Phonak Lumity L90-RL
Hey @platypus — just a heads-up we discovered while working on the iOS app:
iOS doesn’t allow audio from a USB input (like the FMA120) to be routed to Bluetooth devices using A2DP or HFP.
In other words, hearing aids like your Phonak Lumity L90-RL, which rely on those profiles, won’t be able to receive audio through the FMA120 on an iPhone.
If your main goal was to use the FMA120 with your Lumity L90-RL for Auracast, you might consider returning it through Amazon while you’re still within the return window — or wait for a future firmware/app update. We’ve just come up with a possible approach and will be starting work on it soon.
That said, -certified hearing aids — designed specifically for iOS — don’t have this limitation and continue to work as expected.
To break it down:
- A2DP is output-only — iOS assumes no microphone is needed when using this profile, so it blocks input from external sources like USB mics. (One of the goals of is to remove limitations like this, giving users the freedom to choose whether they need a mic—even when listening to music.)
- HSP/HFP are two-way — but iOS expects both mic and speaker to come from the same Bluetooth device. Using a USB mic is considered a mismatch and won’t work.
To clarify:
- The receiver works with MFi hearing aids
- It works with the iPhone’s built-in speaker
- It doesn’t work with Bluetooth hearing aids using A2DP, HSP, or HFP
Just for reference, Android doesn’t have this restriction—so the Lumity L90-RL can receive Auracast when the FMA120 is plugged into an Android device.
Sorry @platypus, and to other Phonak users on iPhone—looks like the thread title might’ve been a little misleading. Please bear with us as we begin working on a new approach for this combination.

Oh wow! Sorry to hear this. But THANK YOU for letting me know. I will return it as you suggested.
I wish you well. Your customer support is excellent!

A customer just confirmed successful use of receiver mode with their REXTON BiCore hearing aids.

Hi,
Do I understand correctly that if I want to:
Send audio from a MacBook Pro M1 wirelessly to Sonnet 2 AudioStream processors via an FMA120 (or in the future FMA121), it’s enough to upload the software so that it works as a transmitter? And in that case, I only need one such USB module?
I assume that if I want to receive audio from several devices simultaneously (for example, a TV, computer, etc.) and send it to the hearing processors, then in that situation I would need several USB modules acting as transmitters and one in the phone as a receiver?
Let’s consider another situation — I’m in a museum that offers headphones with technology. Would I then need a second FMA120 USB module connected to my iPhone? Would it then transmit the audio from the iPhone via to the sound processors?
My English isn’t great — this was translated with the help of ChatGPT.
Thank you in advance for your answers and best regards,
